4.1.8.2 Burial of Non-Catholic Services in Catholic Cemetery

1. Non-Catholics who are given Catholic funeral rites may be interred in a Catholic cemetery.

2. Other non-Catholic members of Catholic families may be interred in a Catholic cemetery when the family requests it or the deceased had expressed that wish.

3. Non-Catholic priests, ministers and communities of non-Catholic Churches and ecclesial communities may provide the funeral rites of their tradition in a Catholic cemetery when the family requests it or the deceased had expressed that wish. [1]

4. The pastor or other administrator of the cemetery is encouraged to consult the diocesan bishop if there is any question about the suitability of giving or denying such permission. He must consult the diocesan bishop if “burial rights” had been purchased.
