Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion

1. In matters pertaining to Communion under both kinds, the directives of the General Instruction, nos. 281-287, the Norms for the Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion Under Both Kinds in the Dioceses of the United States of America and the Particular Norms for the Celebration and Distribution of Holy Communion Under Both Kinds for the Diocese of Lansing (January 28, 2003) are to be observed with the following exceptions. [1]

   a. the permission of the Bishop of Lansing to use glass vessels in the celebration of the Eucharist is withdrawn, [2]

   b. the faculty of priest celebrants to permit extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion to purify the sacred vessels has ceased. [3]

    (A duly instituted acolyte may, however, assist in purification. [4])

2. The principles for the distribution and reception of Holy Communion in the Extraordinary form are governed by its particular liturgical norms (see #5.A.4 Usage of Extraordinary Form, Roman Missal of 1962).
