5.9.5.6 Power of Vicars Forane to Grant Matrimonial Permissions and Dispensations

1. Vicars forane are delegated the power by the diocesan bishop to grant matrimonial permissions and dispensations in urgent situations for those who have canonical domicile in the Diocese of Lansing, when they cannot be obtained from a local ordinary (i.e., diocesan bishop, vicar general) or through the chancery.

2. They are not to grant such permission or dispensation unless they have determined that parties are otherwise canonically free to marry and that any conditions for the permission or dispensation are fulfilled.

3. They are to take care that a written record is made of the action, and to promptly inform the chancery of the action.
