Competency and Eligibility for Lay Ecclesial Ministry

1. Eligibility to serve as a lay ecclesial minister in the Diocese of Lansing and its parishes, schools and other units requires that a person:

   a. be fully initiated or received into the Catholic Church, a lay member of the Christian faithful;

   b. be in unimpaired communion with the Catholic Church and live a life in harmony with Catholic moral teachings; [1] and

   c. be in compliance with all norms treated in #2.1.1 Norms to Protect the Good of Persons and the Common Good.

2. A lay ecclesial minister must possess the appropriate human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral formation, qualities and competencies required to properly fulfill the service or function. [2]
