7.3 Anonymous, Unsigned Letters
1. As a rule, anonymous allegations against the morality, orthodoxy or ministerial competence of a priest, deacon, religiously vowed person or lay person are simply destroyed. (These illustratively include unsigned letters, phone calls, emails or internet materials forwarded to the diocese.)
2. However, a cumulative pattern of allegations or the serious nature of an individual allegation may merit further inquiry by diocesan authorities, and certain types of allegations may require referral to civil authorities (see #2.1 Norms for All Clergy and Laity).
